Presbyterian?
A Presbyterian Church is one that is part of the Reformed Christian tradition that has it's roots in the European Reformations of the 16th Century. One motto of the Reformed movement was 'a reformed church, always being reformed according to the Word of God.' Reformed Christians place a high value on God's written revelation in the Bible, on God's sovereignty (God's gracious rule over all things), and tend to stress the role of God's covenant promises in his relationship with human beings.
Most churches that call themselves Presbyterian have some connection back to the Church of Scotland. The name Presbyterian means 'to be governed by elders.' Presbyterian churches are lead by councils of elders: in the local congregation (Session); in regional councils for pastoral care and oversight (Presbytery and Synod); and nationally (General Assembly). We are a member church of the Presbyterian Church in Canada. To learn more go to: presbyterian.ca |
